The tares and the wheat, and how does all this fit into the final judgment. A response to a family member.

The discussion focuses on the interpretation of the final judgment as depicted in Matthew and Revelation, emphasizing their relationship. It argues that these passages address different aspects of judgment, primarily involving nations rather than the church. It explores the significance of resurrection and judgment for various groups and highlights the nature of death as separation from God. Continue reading

And God saw the light. Genesis 1:1-4.

In my previous post, I had hoped to establish that all things were created perfectly from the moment Jesus first spoke all things into existence. I believe that the primary creation happened in verse one. “In the beginning God created the heavens … Continue reading

Things that puzzle and provoke me. Matthew 3:9-12.

In the previous post on Matthew 3, we touched on verses 9 – 12, but as I look at these verses again, I see things that provoke and puzzle me. For example: “And do not presume to say to yourselves, … Continue reading

What’s the advantage of being a Jew? Romans 3:1-8.

We have made it to Romans chapter three, and immediately there is a sense that something is missing, as though we drop into the middle of a conversation. Based on this introduction if you were to say to me, I … Continue reading

I charge you in the presence of God. 1 Timothy 6:13.

If you are a student of the Bible, then you know that we are on the brink of the church being snatched out of here and God’s wrath is to be poured out upon the earth. The message, that I … Continue reading

Fight the Good Fight of Faith. 1Timothy 6:11 -12.

Most translations entitle this next section “Fight the Good Fight of Faith.” But look at what the NASB translation says in 1 Timothy 6:11a. “But flee from these things, you man of God.” You would think that the editors would … Continue reading

When desire has conceived. James 1:15-27

I ended the last post on the book of James with this: Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. … Continue reading

The marks of a true Christian – what does that mean? Romans 12:9-21.

Note how the NASB uses the term wickedness. Just the mention of the word evokes images of horrific acts. Look that word “wickedness” up, and you can find, according to the Word Study Dictionary, that a sufficient and simplistic understanding is “what ought not to be.” That sounds like something my granddad used to say. He applied that farm mentality to me on more than one occasion, but notably when I tested out the cigarette lighter in his car and got burned. Continue reading

A living sacrifice. It’s not what you think. Romans 12:1,2.

The NASB entitles Romans 12:1,2 as a living sacrifice. As you pursue the depths within chapter 12, you come to understand that WE are that living sacrifice. Finding the treasures buried within those depths may require a focused examination into what Paul is … Continue reading

Does the law = sin. Romans 7:7-25

So when Paul says I would not have come to know sin except through the Law, perhaps he is saying, having been taught that there was a law as a young child, I came to understand that going outside the parameters of the Law, was to miss the mark (sin.) Continue reading
