I have been on a rant about false teachers lately.

Seeing as I have been on a rant about false teachers lately I thought I should add one more.     Two more guys I tend to respect were recently speaking on the subject “are there prophets in these last days.” … Continue reading

A sincere and unqualified faith. 2 Timothy 1:5.

It seems that I have been in 1 Timothy for months, and I need a break, but as I sit here pondering whether to go on and dive into 2 Timothy, which has a wealth of depth in it, my … Continue reading

Those who are under the yoke of slavery – 1 Timothy 6: 1

We have moved into 1 Timothy chapter six. I thought we would never get here. I have got to tell you that this opening line leaves me with the feeling that we have lost the context, and I will show … Continue reading

Keep these things before them. 1 Timothy 4:6-16

The NASB, and a few other translations, entitle this next section, A Good Servant of Jesus Christ. Understand that this letter is addressed to the young Timothy for the purpose of giving him instructions to be an outstanding pastor. Since … Continue reading

Anyone whose goal is to serve. 1 Timothy 3:1-7

We closed out chapter two with Paul saying, “I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.”  While learning about faith and truth is … Continue reading

The book of James, an introduction and study of chapter 1 verses 1-4.

The book of James Written about A.D. 45-50. In a world that denies the validity of Jesus and God’s word, but is willing to accept the validity of someone like Socrates or Plato wholeheartedly; I would like to offer Dr. … Continue reading

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

This idea of confessing, as though it was a continual act of slaughtering a lamb for your sins, does not change God’s heart toward you. 1 John 1:9 NASB says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Continue reading

Submission to authorities. Romans 13:1-7

Romans, chapter 13 is entitled: Submission to the Authorities I am already struggling with this title, but let’s be patient and see what the chapter is telling us. Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there … Continue reading

The marks of a true Christian – what does that mean? Romans 12:9-21.

Note how the NASB uses the term wickedness. Just the mention of the word evokes images of horrific acts. Look that word “wickedness” up, and you can find, according to the Word Study Dictionary, that a sufficient and simplistic understanding is “what ought not to be.” That sounds like something my granddad used to say. He applied that farm mentality to me on more than one occasion, but notably when I tested out the cigarette lighter in his car and got burned. Continue reading

Gifts of Grace, Romans 12:3-8.

Paul opened the twelfth chapter of Romans with a stern warning that we are to present our bodies as living sacrifices.  Here is how the NASB puts it: Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and … Continue reading
